Note: Jean-Marie Martin was born in Concarneau and moved to Paris in 1945 to study under Jean Dupas and then Jacques Le Chevallier who had a lasting influence on his work. He exhibited widely in France and returned to live in Concerneau later in life.
The present painting shows the influence of the Nabis painters - notably Bonnard and Vuillard.
