Note: Hellewell trained at Bradford College of Art from the late 1940s to early in the 1950s, following service with the RAF during the war.
He started work as a graphic designer, but after the tragic death of his wife Dora in 1976, he became a full time painter.
A distinct evolution of styles can be traced through his career, from hard-edged abstraction to photo realism with techniques of bold impasto and delicate transluscence.
