Note: A Manchester born artist, Hilton was wounded in World War I at the Battle of the Somme. Returning to civilian life he developed an interest in abstraction and surrealism. He was a member of Manchester's Society of Modern Painters from the early 1930's and was elected Chairman in the 1950's.
