Note: This major work was painted soon after Sassoon moved to Kirkcudbright in 1926. Although Sassoon studied at the Slade under Tonks, his son remembered that - ‘He rarely sold a picture, preferring to give them away and was far too quiet and self-effacing about his work, which he painted for his own enjoyment.’
He was the cousin of the poet Seigfried Sassoon.
