Grindley & Palmer, Liverpool
Note: In 1951, Redpath made an extended tour of Spain, visiting Valencia, Ubeda, Granada, Toledo and Madrid. While she experienced warm, sunny weather, she also met with rain and cold, grey skies. Her experience there compelled her to paint in a more expressive manner: “Well I couldn’t paint Spain the way I painted France. It was a much harsher, starker country... Most of the paintings I did there were black and white and grey and really quite sinister... they had to be painted with a strength of manner which I didn’t have before when I was painting the gentleness of the south of France with its blue skies and palm trees.”
