Note: Reginald Guy Kortright was born in Clifton, Bristol, in 1877, the son of Sir Cornelius Kortright, and educated at Newton College in Newton Abbott. Aged twenty, in 1897, he decided to pursue his artistic studies at the School of Landscape and Marine Painting in St Ives, run by the artists Louis Grier and Julius Olsson.
In 1899 he shared a studio in Paris with two other St Ives students, returning to be based in St Ives at St Eia Studio until 1912. Living in Wales until the outbreak of World War One, he then served in the army, becoming a Captain in the Monmouthshire Regiment. After World War One he continued painting and writing for the Artist Magazine.
