Provenance
Collection of Julian Trevelyan; by descent
Note: Trevelyan befriended George Downs in the 1930s (referenced throughout Indigo Days as ‘my friend George’) - Downs was a cockney silk stockings salesman in the Caledonian Road with a passion for modern art and Braque in particular. Trevelyan encouraged him as a painter and included him in many group shows (inc the surrealist group) and collaborated with him on murals etc. He later became an ardent communist.
